ACON’s Young Gay Men’s Project presents: Holding The Man

The Young Gay Men’s Project at ACON is hosting an exclusive screening of Holding The Man on the 31st of August at Dendy Cinemas Newtown. Based on the memoir of the much loved Timothy Conigrave, the film is a beautifully moving love story set in the early years of Australia’s HIV crisis. For ACON, the memoir is particularly moving and important as Conigrave worked in ACON’s Fun and Esteem project in the early 1990’s developing HIV prevention campaigns and providing HIV education and support for young gay men.

Holding The Man has become one of our community’s most cherished love stories that provides a compelling personal insight into the devastating impact of HIV and AIDS during the early years of the epidemic.

We invite past and present Fun and Esteem participants and their friends to enjoy the film and celebrate the community’s unique history. The screening of Holding The Man will be preceded by speeches from those who worked directly with Timothy Conigrave throughout his time with ACON.

The evening will be a special occasion for anyone who has participated in any of the various communities that have emerged as a result of ACON’s work with Young Gay Men.”

There’s only limited seating available for this event so we encourage anyone who’s interested in attending to purchase tickets as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
